For the 2006 World Cup the old Waldstadion was replaced by a modern arena. A steel cable membrane roof covers the grandstand after the principle of the spoked wheel and is combined over the playing field with a mobile, textile roof. An oval polycarbonate roof ring mediates between the two textile roofs and permits an optimal solar-light exposure for the lawn. 72 radial cables form the structure of the mobile roof that hangs in the folded state under the central video cube. A cylindrical shell protects the fabric and opens like a flower during the operation of the mobile roof.
